| AWM Group assists british waterways with recycle scheme
The AWM Group has won a unique opportunity to assist British Waterways in implementing recycling centres at seven visitor mooring sites across the Midlands. The scheme is set to encourage visitors and boating customers of canals and rivers to recycle glass and plastic bottles, newspapers, tins and cans.
The scheme which began on the 1st July will initially be piloted across the Midlands and if successful will be executed throughout the UK next year. The proposal has been put in place to promote a more sustainable waste strategy for British Waterways and its stakeholders and ultimately prevent waste produced at the mooring sites from being sent to landfill.
The combination of the general public’s “Green” agenda, Government targets, legislation and consumer demand have all contributed to British Waterways’ deciding to set up recycling centres, and the organisation is positive that the move will also be welcomed by all of its stakeholders.
The centres will be equipped with recycle bins and clear instructions on which items can be recycled. AWM Group will assist by putting the bins - complete with instructions into place and will make regular collections of the waste accrued. All of the recyclable waste will then be taken to AWM’s Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), located in Wolverhampton, to be processed for off-site recycling and recovery where appropriate.
Paul Woodhead, Managing Director of AWM Group comments “The MRF is an innovative concept, which has allowed us to help organisations such as British Waterways to achieve their environmental objectives”. He continues “We are proud to be playing a part in this fantastic project, which will not only assist in making the environment a better place, but will also create a more sustainable future for both British Waterways and all of its Stakeholders”.
